Leave bandage on for at least 2 hours

Leave bandage on for the recommended minimum. Your artist may have you leave it on longer or overnight if you were tattooed in the evening. DO NOT rebandage.

Soap and water is the best aftercare

Wash tattoo 2 to 3 times daily for the first 3 days with mild unscented soap. Loofas and washcloths can be abrasive, so it's best to use your hands. Rinse clean and air dry.

Use ointment sparingly

Ointment, such as Aquaphor, may be recommended by your artist. It is important to apply a very THIN layer.  Too much ointment can be harmful. Blot off excess. Do not use more than 3 to 4 days.

Do NOT scratch or pick

Around the 3rd or 4th day your tattoo will dry out and itch. Avoid the temptation to scratch it by keeping it moisturized with fragrance-free hand lotion.

Do NOT Soak a fresh Tattoo

Swimming pools, hot tubs and open bodies of water contain microorganisms that can cause infection.
